Starry Night Gala to be Held October 17, 2009

Please save the date Saturday, October 17, 2009 for our annual celebration of Texas art and music- the TALA Gala.  This year's gala, Starry Night, will be held at the lovely and historic home of Diana and Bill Hobby in Houston.  We look forward to a beautiful evening featuring great food, art, and music.  For more information about sponsorship levels, individual tickets, art and silent auction items, volunteering and other event details, please contact the TALA office at < office@talarts.org >.

Business of Film Seminar with SWAMP and TALA

On Saturday, September 12, 2009 from 12 pm to 4 pm, the Southwest Alternative Media Project (SWAMP) and TALA will offer a seminar entitled the Business of Film at the Rice Media Center.  Industry experts will cover the following topics during the half day program: formation of a Limited Liability Corporation or a Limited Liability Partnership for a film; discussion of tax concepts for film producers; copyright and licensing issues concerning  film, television and the internet; line production; music rights; and other accounting and legal issues related to film production and distribution.  Tickets will be available for purchase later in the summer from SWAMP, as well as more information about the program and speakers.  Please contact SWAMP at < swamp@swamp.org > or TALA at < info@talarts.org > for more information.



TALA Volunteer Information Session July 18, 2009

The next information session for new volunteers or anyone interested in information about TALA and it's processes will be July 18th, 2009 from 8:30 am to 11 am at the TALA office (1540 Sul Ross, Houston, TX 77006).  2 hours CLE credit will be available.  Topics to be covered include, introduction to TALA and general information about the volunteer and client-matching process, handling of TALA copyright and trademark requests, discussion of typical accounting and tax issue requests, and an overview of the process of completing the 1023.  Please contact Erin Rodgers, Staff Attorney, at  <  info@talarts.org  >  with any questions or to suggest other topics of interest. 




Nonprofit Formation Orientation July 1, 2009

For organizations looking to begin the process of 501(c)(3) formation, who are already involved in the process, or for people and organizations interested in learning about the process of 501(c)(3) formation, TALA is offering periodic 501(c)(3) information sessions.  These sessions will cover the purpose and basic function of 501(c)(3) organizations, things to consider before forming a 501(c)(3) organization, bookeeping and tax issues related to 501(c)(3) organizations, and other pertinent information.  Please contact < info@talarts.org > for more information.




Drink Houston Better Night at Poison Girl, August 2, 2009

Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 2, 2009 for Drink Houston Better Night at Poison Girl (1641 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77006).  Come out to Poison Girl if you are 21 and up, and support the Houston arts community and TALA, who will receive some of the profits from the evening.  A great opportunity to network and play vintage pinball machines !!





Fleming's Dinner on June 3rd, 2009

Thanks to everyone who came out to support TALA at the Spice of the Islands on June 3rd, 2009 at Fleming's Restaurant.  We so enjoyed spending time with the wonderful clients, supporters, and friends of TALA and learning more about what makes the Texas art community such a vibrant and exciting one.  We would like to extend a special thanks to those who came in from Austin for the event and would love to schedule future
