Fourth Annual Menil Community Arts Festival, Saturday, April 14, 2012

The Menil Collection Museum, TALA, and a host of other surrounding arts organizations housed on the Menil Campus come together to host a free afternoon of art and entertainment that will extend across the Menil “campus” from West Alabama to Richmond Avenue. Highlighting the diversity of the Menil neighborhood arts community, the festival will include films and performances, art workshops and food trucks.

Contracts for Visual Artists with David Sokolow, Wednesday, April 18, 2012

TALA Board Member David Sokolow will present a talk focused on the contracts impacting those working in the Visual Arts. Mr. Sokolow will focus on Gallery & Consignment Agreements, with a focus on the former, and highlight key issues an artist should consider before signing with a gallery. Designed for both those new to TALA’s Volunteer Program or for those wanting a refresher, Volunteer Orientation offers generalized training and information on the most common types of cases handled by TALA. These sessions are designed to provide information to those interested in forming a tax exempt, nonprofit corporation, covering the basic function and structure of exempt organizations, bookkeeping and tax issues related to exempt organizations, and other pertinent information. There will also be time for questions and answers during the session. Session will be presented by Erin Rodgers, TALA Staff Attorney. This program is free and open to the public. TALA Creates Newly Launched Central Texas Office

TALA invites those of you residing in the Central Texas region to contact our Central Texas office, managed by newly-hired Central Texas Program Manager, Alissa McCain. Alissa has served the Austin arts community for the past ten years providing valuable professional development services for artists through the Austin Creative Alliance and Austin Music Foundation. Additional professional experience includes project, budget, and grant management at the Texas Department of Public Safety and large-scale event planning at South by Southwest Conferences and Festivals. During the past five years, Alissa has created over 150 professional development seminars and networking events for professional artists. Alissa holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Texas at Arlington and a J.D. from Texas Tech University. She is a member of the Texas Bar.

TALA Volunteer of the Quarter: Jared Capps

The Staff and Board of Directors of TALA are pleased to recognize TALA Spring Intern Jared Capps as the TALA Volunteer of the Quarter. Mr. Capps graduated from Texas A&M University in 2007 with a degree in Political Science. He is a May 2012 graduate of the University of New Hampshire School of Law, in Concord, New Hampshire. His background includes fundraising and endowment work for the Vice President of Student Affairs Development Office during his time as a student at Texas A&M, and he briefly worked as the Assistant Development Officer at the Texas A&M Health Science Center after graduation. During his time in law school, Mr. Capps gravitated toward building a career as a trial attorney, while also handling copyright, trademark, and non-profit issues for the arts community. His love and dedication to the entire spectrum of the arts makes Mr. Capps an especially worthy honoree.
