“The Right of Publicity” Presented by Keith Jaasma Co-Hosted by Spacetaker and TALA Wednesday, Janaury 25, 2012

Join Spacetaker and Texas Accountants & Lawyers for the Arts for a free seminar on the Right of Publicity led by attorney Keith Jaasma. The right of publicity protects individuals from having their names or likenesses appropriated for commercial or other valuable purposes without compensation. Mr. Jaasma will discuss when and how you can use an image of famous and non-famous people in your art, what is fair use, the limitations on using the names and images of individuals for commercial purposes, and the extent to which promoters can use names or images to promote an artist’s work. Additionally, you’ll learn ways to protect and control the use of your name and work from being used for commercial purposes. This seminar is free and open to all. These sessions are designed to provide information to those interested in forming a tax exempt, nonprofit corporation, covering the basic function and structure of exempt organizations, bookkeeping and tax issues related to exempt organizations, and other pertinent information. There will also be time for questions and answers during the session. Session will be presented by Erin Rodgers, TALA Staff Attorney. This program is free and open to the public.
